Former Super Eagles captain Sunday Oliseh has taken a swipe at Arsenal, claiming the club still lacks the winning mentality needed to truly compete for the Premier League title this season.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Oliseh suggested that Arsenal’s confidence in the title race is exaggerated, especially given Manchester City’s slow start to the campaign.
“Arsenal and Chelsea are making noise about the Premier League title only because Manchester City haven’t found their rhythm yet,” Oliseh remarked. “Once City regain their form, we’ll see who genuinely has what it takes to go the distance.”
The ex-Nigerian international further questioned Mikel Arteta’s managerial pedigree, hinting that the Arsenal boss may still be developing the psychological edge needed to guide a team to league glory.
“The issue with Arsenal has always been mentality — that strong, consistent winning spirit. You don’t just buy it; you build it,” Oliseh explained. “I have nothing personal against Arteta, but I sometimes wonder — how many major titles did he actually win as a player?”
Oliseh’s comments come as Arsenal continue their push for the Premier League title, having narrowly missed out in recent seasons. While Arteta’s side has shown promise and tactical improvement, critics like Oliseh believe the Gunners still need the resilience and mental toughness that define true champions.
As the race for the Premier League title heats up, Arsenal will need to prove that they have evolved beyond being contenders on paper — and show they can deliver when the pressure peaks.
