Former Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Agboola Ayoola, popularly known as “Alleluyah,” has officially announced his exit from the PDP in Oyo State, marking the end of a long-standing political journey with the party.
Ayoola, who hails from Itesiwaju Local Government Area, confirmed his resignation in a letter dated October 10, 2025, and addressed to the Oyo State leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The former lawmaker expressed deep gratitude to the PDP in Oyo State for providing him with the platform to serve at both state and national levels throughout his political career.
“I, Senator Agboola Ayoola, appreciate the PDP for the opportunity to serve in different capacities and for the milestones we achieved together during my time in the party,” he stated.
Ayoola served as Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs under former Governors Rashidi Ladoja and the late Adebayo Alao-Akala between 2003 and 2011.
He later represented Oyo North Senatorial District in the National Assembly from 2011 to 2015, emerging as the only PDP senator from the entire South-West during that period.
Explaining the reason behind his resignation, Ayoola noted that his decision was guided by new political aspirations and strategic plans for the future.
“You would have noticed my absence from the recent congresses at both local and state levels,” he said. “This was intentional, as I am now focused on future political goals that require a new direction.”
In his letter, Ayoola formally declared his decision to leave the PDP in Oyo State, effective October 10, 2025, while wishing the party success in its future endeavors.
“Consequently, I hereby resign my membership of the PDP with effect from October 10, 2025. I extend my goodwill and best wishes to the leadership and members of the party,” he concluded.
Ayoola’s resignation adds to the list of notable political shifts within Oyo’s political landscape as the state gears up for another round of intense political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
