Immediate past Treasurer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State and a former Speaker of the Moro Local Government Legislative Council Rt. Hon. Olatunji Kannajogun Gabriel has formally resigned from the party.
In a letter dated October 17, 2025, and addressed to the Ward Chairman of the PDP in Jebba Ward, Moro Local Government Area, Kannajogun said his decision followed “deep reflection and careful consideration.”
He expressed appreciation to the PDP for the opportunities given to him to serve in various capacities, including as Speaker of the Moro Legislative Council, Kwara PDP State Treasurer, and as a National Delegate which he rejected.
However, he cited internal challenges within the party as the reason for his resignation, alleging that the PDP had been “hijacked by anti-democratic forces, from within and outside, in broad daylight.”
“I can no longer, in good conscience, remain within a system that has strayed so far from its original purpose and value,” the letter read in part.
Kannajogun announced that he would be joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing it as a new coalition political platform that aligns more closely with his principles and vision.
The resignation letter was copied to key PDP leaders, including Alhaji Abdulganiyu Musa Safari, Moro LGA Party Chairman; Alhaji Ado Issa Bawa, Kwara PDP State Chairman; and Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, PDP National Leader.
Political observers in Kwara State view Kannajogun’s departure as another sign of internal discontent within the PDP, which could influence the party’s strength ahead of the 2027 general elections.
