Over 100 professional golfers from across Nigeria and beyond are set to converge in Ilorin for the second edition of the ICMA PRO-AM OPEN 2025, which tees off at the Ilorin Golf Club later this month.
The Golf Club Captain, Jide Allen, disclosed this on Monday during a press briefing in Ilorin, announcing that the prestigious tournament will feature 206 golfers across various categories.
These include 170 Amateurs, 20 Category One players, and 106 Professionals.
Allen revealed that the total prize purse for professionals stands at ₦150 million, which will be distributed based on players’ standings by the Professional Golfers Association of Nigeria (PGAN).
Among the professionals expected to headline the event are Nigeria’s top-ranked golfer, Olapade Sunday, winner of the maiden edition, Godwin Oko, and joint runners-up Francis Ekpe and Oche Udo.
According to the tournament schedule, participating golfers will officially arrive on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, while competition for professionals and Category One players begins on Thursday, October 30.
The Amateur category will tee off on Saturday, November 1, with the championship concluding on Sunday, November 2, 2025.
Allen also confirmed that the competition has attracted participants from Cameroon, who are registered members of the Nigeria Golfers Association (NGA), describing it as a testament to the growing reputation of the Ilorin Golf Club and the ICMA Pro-AM Open.
He emphasized that beyond promoting the sport, the event is expected to boost local tourism and economic activity within Ilorin and Kwara State at large.
In his remarks, Mallam Faruq Ismail, a former captain of the Ilorin Golf Club, commended the current leadership, describing the Championship as an initiative to give back to the community and develop golf across the state.
