A political advocacy group within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, the Irepodun–Ifelodun Progressive Movement for Good Governance (IIPMGG), has called for fairness and balanced representation in the Ado/Irepodun/Ifelodun Federal Constituency ahead of the upcoming electoral cycle.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the group urged political stakeholders and party leaders to adopt a rotational system for leadership to ensure equity and inclusiveness across the constituency.
The group highlighted that a review of the constituency’s political history since Nigeria returned to democratic governance in 1999 reveals a significant imbalance in representation between the two local government areas that make up the constituency.
It noted that Ado Local Government has held the House of Representatives seat for a total of about 19 years—a figure expected to reach 20 years by 2027—while Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area has occupied the position for only eight years.
The movement also pointed out that the federal legislative seat has been held by Ado Local Government for the past two consecutive terms, a situation it believes calls for a deliberate effort to restore political balance.
While acknowledging the contributions and developmental achievements of past representatives, the group stressed that democracy should not be measured solely by performance but also by fairness, justice, and equal opportunities for political participation.
“The Ado/Irepodun/Ifelodun Federal Constituency is a union of communities bound by shared aspirations and a collective vision for development,” the statement read.
“However, the continued concentration of representation in one local government risks weakening the spirit of unity and inclusiveness.”
The group therefore urged political stakeholders to support a rotational leadership arrangement that would allow Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area to produce the next representative in the House of Representatives.
According to the movement, such an arrangement would strengthen political stability, deepen mutual respect among communities, and reinforce inclusive governance within the constituency.
The group called on party leaders, community leaders, youth groups, and citizens across the constituency to support what it described as a just and equitable political transition.
It added that embracing fairness in representation would promote unity and ensure that every part of the constituency feels adequately represented in the nation’s legislative process.
The Irepodun–Ifelodun Progressive Movement for Good Governance concluded by urging stakeholders to “stand on the side of justice” by supporting the emergence of the next federal lawmaker from Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area in the interest of equity, unity, and continued development of the constituency.
