Kwara reopens schools as security forces intensify operations against Bandits

The Kwara State Government has announced that schools across the state will reopen on Monday, February 2, 2026, following what it described as significant improvements in the security situation.

In a statement on Sunday, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, said school authorities had been formally notified of the decision.

He added that the decision was taken amid sustained security operations to neutralise threats to public safety, including those affecting schools.

The government, in the statement issued by the Press Secretary of the ministry, Peter Amogbonjaye, said the security situation is now “a lot better than it was before.

It added that security agencies are continuing steady operations to consolidate recent gains as the state government works to build community resilience alongside ongoing kinetic efforts.
