More than eighty-eight thousand Kwara students from various schools across the state have been trained in promoting proper hygiene practices through hand-washing under the Dettol Hygiene Quest Phase 2 programme.
The students, selected from over 300 schools, received training organized by the Wellbeing Foundation Africa (WBFA) in collaboration with Reckitt.
Speaking at the close-out ceremony, the Director of Programming and Reporting, represented by WBFA Chief Program Manager Kehinde Akinsola, revealed that 88,280 students were trained between February and September 2025.
“The Wellbeing Foundation Africa, in partnership with our partners Reckitt implemented the Dettol Hygiene Quest Phase 2 in 300 schools and 120 communities in Kwara State, reaching over 80,000 students, more than 33,000 mothers and over 13,000 community members with critical hygiene knowledge and practices that will serve them throughout their lives,” he stated.
“We now have more children who will live healthier and more communities that are more resilient to preventable diseases.”
“The value of partnership, consistent efforts and local engagement was evident in this phase, and we want to thank our partners, Reckitt, for their dedication to hygiene education and the support to ensure the success of this program.”
Akinsola appreciated the government, community leaders, sponsors, and stakeholders for their support and urged the hygiene ambassadors to share the knowledge acquired with other students and children, helping them take responsibility for their health.
The Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olalekan Olohungbebe, represented by Mrs. Eunice Abidoye, commended the Wellbeing Foundation Africa for its consistent efforts in promoting health education, hygiene awareness, and community wellbeing.
She said the initiative has significantly improved hygiene practices, reduced preventable diseases, and enhanced school attendance across Kwara State.

Indeed, the achievement of over 400,000 individuals reached and inspired stands as a testament to the success of this impactful partnership.”

According to the report, 88,280 students (56,497 males and 31,783 females) and 13,466 community members across 121 communities benefited from the programme. It also reached 14 Primary Health Centres (PHCs), impacting 33,854 individuals.
This achievement underscores the programme’s effectiveness in engaging students and promoting hygiene awareness across schools and communities in Kwara State.
